Can you get a grant for a used or imported electric car in Ireland?

The short answer

No. The €3,500 SEAI purchase grant applies only to new battery-electric cars bought in Ireland — it is not available on used or imported EVs. Used and imported BEVs also do not qualify for the ICE2EV scrappage top-up. You can still claim the up-to-€300 home charger grant regardless of whether your EV is new or used.

The SEAI €3,500 grant and the €5,000 ICE2EV scrappage top-up both apply to new battery-electric cars only, so a second-hand or UK-imported EV does not qualify for purchase support. That said, the up-to-€300 home charger grant is available to any EV owner installing a home charge point, new car or not. A UK-imported BEV is also exempt from the NOx levy, which can reduce import costs versus a petrol or diesel.
